Giveaway TODAY! Fuzzy slippers and hat

I love this pattern.  I'm trying to decide if I'm willing to spend the time to make ME some fuzzy slippers.  I've never crocheted big-people shoes before, but this one is tempting me!

If you'd like to win the patterns, post your favorite kind of home-made ice cream.  I'm bbq-ing for my my family tonight, and trying to decide what to pick up at the store.  (Bonus entry if you send me a recipe you love, too!)  :)

Vanilla!! My daughter is allergic to eggs though so we have to do egg replacement:

Recipe for 4 quarts:

4 eggs
1 cup sugar
2 cans Eagle Brand sweetened condensed milk

1/4 tsp salt
1 pint whipping cream
1 tsp vanilla

- Beat eggs well
- In another bowl, beat whipping cream until thick.
-Fold eggs, sugar, vanilla, salt and Eagle Brand milk into whipped cream. Blend well
-Pour into ice cream maker
-Fill the rest with milk until 3 inches from top.

It is delicious!!

I found a recipe
Makes 4 servings
Prep time: 30 minutes

Ingredients

1 cup milk (can use lowfat, fat-free, flavored)
1 cup whipping cream (can use half-and-half)
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Ice
Rock salt
Large and small cans with lids (like coffee cans, cleaned)
Duct tape

Directions

Pour milk, cream, sugar and vanilla into small can. Cover the can and duct tape well. Shake the can to mix. Put a layer of ice and rock salt in large can. Add small can and layer more ice and rock salt. Cover can and duct tape well. Kick or roll the can for 10 to 15 minutes. Remove the small can. Scrape the ice cream away from the side of the can. Retape and put back in large can with more ice and rock salt. Kick or roll for 5 to 10 more minutes. Open can, stir and serve.

Variations

For reduced fat ice cream, use lowfat or fat-free milk and half-and-half.

For strawberry ice cream, add 1/2 cup of fresh or frozen sliced strawberries.

For chocolate chip ice cream, use chocolate milk and add 1/3 cup chocolate chips.

We like to make vanilla bean and then let the kids each pick a mix in for their bowl. We have 5 kids so nobody ever picks the same thing.

Can't help it... love me some mexican vanilla. Nothing beats home made!

I like this recipe and use mexican vanilla when it calls for the pure extract. If you look hard enough you can find mexican vanilla beans as well at the store. Yum!

My kids and I LOVE cake batter ice cream! You can choose whatever cake flavor you want (which we usually pick fudge or strawberry). It tastes like the cake batter you lick off the spoon when baking....mmmmmmm...... :-)

Cake Batter Ice Cream
Ingredients

1 cup milk
1/2 cup white sugar
2 egg yolks, beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups heavy whipping cream
3/4 cup your choice cake mix, sifted
Directions

Whisk together milk, sugar, egg yolks, vanilla, cream, and cake mix in a saucepan until well blended. Cook over medium-low heat until mixture reaches 160 degrees F (70 degrees C), stirring frequently. Remove from heat and place in the refrigerator or freezer until liquid is cold.
Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and freeze according to manufacturer's directions until it reaches "soft-serve" consistency. Transfer ice cream to a one- or two-quart lidded plastic container; cover surface with plastic wrap and seal. For best results, ice cream should ripen in the freezer for at least 2 hours or overnight.

Vanilla and of course nothing beats snow cream .

For my bonus entry...I have to make non-dairy ice cream due to son's severe milk allergy. So here's the recipe I use...

1/2 cup cream of coconut milk (use a can of coconut milk that's been refridgerated overnight...it will seperate and the cream will rise to the top...open the can and scoop the cream off the top)
1 cup soy milk
3/4 cup sugar
6 oz. silken tofu
1 T. vanilla extract

Puree all ingredients in a blender or food processor until smooth. Poor into your ice cream maker and follow the machine's instructions. It works the best if you chill the mixture a little in the fridge before churning it in the ice cream maker. (At least make sure all of the ingredients are refridgerated awhile before you put them in the blender.)

To make chocolate: Reduce the sugar by 1/4 cup. Add 8 oz of cooled, melted semisweet chocolate to the blender.
