Giveaway #3: The Peacock Shells Afghan

The shells on this one each come to a little point, so it's texture reminds me of a peacock.
To enter, share the first crochet project you ever finished.  Technically, for me that was a whole ball of yarn that I made into a giant chain when I was six, but I don't think that counts.  When I was 8, I made a hot pad.  It took a month.  It's so crooked and lopsided and ugly, but I still am proud of it when I see it at my mom's house.

I believe the first thing I ever made was a pet net. Hangs in the corner of a room to hold stuffed animals

I learned how to crochet when I was in the hospital when I broke my pelvis, and a friend was in on bed rest with her first child. So I made a baby afghan, ripple pattern.

Oh it was a hot pad when I was 7 years old and I was so mad at my mom because she wouldn't teach me anything else. At the time she was making those beautiful doll dresses that spread out over you bed!

My first ever was a baby blanket. The first stitch I learned was herringbone half double crochet because that is the only one my mother knows. I was 10

I made a hat! My church was doing a fundraiser to raise money for a mission trip. Members were asked to crochet or knit some type of hat to sell. I decided that I would learn how to crochet since it involved only holding 1 hook vs. two. It was just last fall when I started!

A baby blanket

I started making a hat but was so frustrated with it not coming out right I threw it away before I finished it. The first one I completed (which why this was the second attempt at a project I have no idea, but I am a bit of an over-achiever) was a pineapple throw afghan for a wedding present for my brother and his wife. They still use it! :-)

My grandmother passed away a few years ago and all I wanted was her crochet items. When I was looking thru her hooks, there was one that was terribly worn. On the side of it was scratched in the metal the name "Eva"...not only did I inherit my grandmothers items, but that particular hook was her sisters! I was so happy!

A scarf, it didn't turn out at all!

I tried a scarf and it was so uneven on the sides. After I learned a bit better, I frogged it and used the yarn in a blanket.

When I first learned to crochet when I was 5 I made "bookmarks." I'm sure it goes without saying that they were simply a chain with a fancy name! I even tried to sell them!

I was so thrilled at how fast crochet was compared to knitting that I made an afghan!

I crocheted a granny square afghan because that was the only stitch that I knew how to do. I have finally learned how to read patterns and am super excited about that.
